Learn and teach Sanskrit to children and adults (conversation, grammar).
Any language is a carrier of meaning of the culture, reflects our ways of living, our vision of reality and a way to connect to the other. Much is lost if the language itself is lost. And when that language happens to be ‘Devabhasha’, the language of the Devatas and much of our Shastra, then we have a unique chance.
A chance to connect to the wisdom that the language has carried over millennia, a chance to tap into the precision and sheer beauty of its poetics, a chance to purify and refine our own expression. All of us want this.
And so, as with all great ventures we can start small. Enrol into a Samskrta Sambhashanam course with Samskrita Bharati or similar organisations.
Have fun with the language and build one’s vocabulary with common words for different parts of the body and other objects. It is the one language that you cannot go wrong in pronouncing because the exact place of the production of sound is mentioned and also what needs to happen in the mouth when you say kha or Tha. One also delights in the meanings of the words. A lot of the shlokas start to make sense. Or if you are studying Vedanta then you are already exposed to the words which you start revelling in and see many of them as non-translatable. We can contribute by learning and teaching Sanskrit and joining hands with people/organisations that are already doing this.
Anyone who takes to learning Sanskrit has only one regret – why did I not start sooner? I am sure you don’t want to be that person 😊
If you know of organisations and individuals who are teaching Sanskrit do share
