To sip the water of Jnana-Ganga, we need a ghat, a flight of stairs or a place from where you can access the flowing waters easily.
Each teacher of Vedanta is like a ghat who drank long and deep from the flowing wisdom from Bhagavan to the rishis and to the many gurus in the parampara.
As Jnana-Ganga flows through mountains, valleys and plains across Bharat there are innumerable ghats.
You could pause, admire the wisdom from afar, take selfies, take a sip or drink long and deep. Sanatana Dharma flows across the sacred geography and in the hearts of those who live by the ghats of the rivers and tributaries.
The institution of a matha grew around the teachers of the parampara.
Much like a jnana-ganga tributary with its many teachers every matha ensures that wisdom on the purushartha-s (Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha) are systematically transmitted through tried and tested methodologies.
These institutions and temples of learning have existed for hundreds of years with the trust and devotion of kings, patrons and most importantly the sanaatanis who drew their strength from the guru they had or the matha they belonged to.
We see that even Sri Rama and Sri Krishna despite being avataara-s went to learn at gurukulam-s (with Rishi Vashishtha and Rishi Sandeepani).
The need for ashrams and gurukulams in Kali Yuga is more, not less. Vedanta teachers especially sannyasis and sadhus have dedicated their lives to the wisdom.
They consume the least, contribute the maximum and live on contributions from grhasthas, who are the contributing pillars of our society.
What can we do for these institutions of learning who will be there for our grandchildren?
