This is part two of a two-part series on which is the best sadhana/yajna according to the Bhagavad Gita. Through sadhanas we seek to transform ourselves. It is a quiet inner revolution by which, the way you interact with yourself …

‘Japa’ is a repetition of a word or chant during the practice of meditation. The letter ‘pa’ stands for that which removes or destroys all impurities and the letter ‘ja’ stands for that which puts an end to the cycle of birth and death. Therefore, japa is a sadhana, a religious and spiritual discipline and blesses you with focus, antah-karana shuddhi and an abiding mind for moksha.
All wise people had japa as one of their sadhanas. It is better if you are initiated by a guru for the chant to ensure you do it correctly and understand the other stipulations.
Japa being a karma gives karma phala, punya as well as a focused mind. As you accumulate punya it destroys the varieties of obstructions to knowledge. Japa , then, is more than a mere discipline or technique and an audio invocation of the very deity. Traditional japa became Transcendental meditation and has blessed millions across generations.
Bhajans have a power to soothe, heal and elevate our devotion. Set to beautiful melodies and rhythm, bhajans in Sanskrit or other Indian languages sing of our yearning for the divine, our helpless human condition and resting in the lap of Bhagavan knowing that all will be well. It is common to organise a get together of bhajans and this can be done by anyone where people take turns to sing and unite in the chords of oneness.
Just like we unhesitatingly recommend a new show that we watched on Netflix or a new product that we recently bought, we can also share with our family and friends the joy of japa and the blessings of bhajans.
