2/26 ways to contribute to Bharat
The freedom of this sacred land lies in the culture, heritage and our ways of life. Utsavas or festivals are sacred days often celebrated through prayer, fasting and feasting as well as some profound rituals. The theme of many festivals is the celebration of Dharma over Adharma. Besides being a time for introspection and gratitude, festivals lend joy, hope and enthusiasm to the routine of everyday living. People love to come together during festival prompting Kavi Kalidasa to say that people are indeed utsavapriyah-like festivals. Times of celebration provide occasions for bonding, honoring our connections and for resolving animosity as well.
The festival calendar is a busy one and some of the popularly celebrated festivals are Makara Sankranti, Mahashivaratri, Holi, Rama-navami, Shankara Jayanti, Guru Purnima, Janmashtami, Ganesha Chaturthi, Navaratri and Deepavali.
Our glorious festivals keep the value for Dharma and the prayerfulness in our hearts alive. In recent times, there has been a negative focus particularly on Hindu festivals. Would anyone have the courage to ask of you why you are feeding your child or celebrating her birthday in a big way? Then when we offer something special to Bhagavan and his many manifestations during our celebrations, can there be any grounds for even a question on why you do anything for one that is beloved to you?
We keep our customs and tradition alive by living it or else it and we will be relegated to the museum.
